ZKG Cement Lime Gypsum - 02/2025 | ZKG Cement Lime Gypsum 23/04/2025 H

Sommaire de revue

- n° 02/2025 - 68 p.
2045 is approaching, the self-declared goal of at least the German cement industry to produce climate-neutral cement by then. However, this also presents the protagonists with challenges, but also offers great possibilities and opportunities for technical and scientific development. One prerequisite for keeping pace with this is to stay informed, think ahead and keep an eye on current developments. Dr. Joachim Harder‘s contribution from Onestone Consulting “The future generation of cement kiln technology” is certainly a contribution to this. Kiln technology is also always linked to the respective CCS technology, which will be used to separate CO2 from the production process in the future. The kiln systems used to date have of course been extensively researched, there is a lot of experience, the technology is well understood. How can I perhaps transfer this knowledge to future systems? Find out more in this exciting article from p. 22.

The topic of CO₂ is a recurring theme in this issue. Under the motto “CarbonCycleCultureClub (C4): ‘Closing the Loop / Carbon Credits/Carbon Pricing'”, Forum Rathenau discussed the CO₂ market, which was also a focus of the UN Climate Change Conference in Baku. A comprehensive report starting on p. 42 deals with many of the aspects discussed, also with regard to the cement industry. At the end of the event, there were also many new approaches. Prof Wehrspohn concluded with the words: “Which is good, because the idea of the CarbonCycleCultureClub is also to ask questions and not answer them all.”

Many technical articles are also included in this issue, e.g. from the company Christian Pfeiffer “Enhancing cement grinding efficiency: Replacing intermediate diaphragms in ball mills”.

You can look forward to interesting insights with ZKG 02/25![-]

Dear readers,

It was an excellent event and a great reunion with many old acquaintances, start-ups and new contacts, the 9th International VDZ Congress from November 6-8 in Düsseldorf. It is a forum for cement manufacturers and the supply industry to exchange views on all current topics, and there are a number of exciting, challenging and urgent tasks. The internationality was also visible in the program and the speakers. It is certainly interesting and inspiring to see that the cement industry is facing very similar challenges worldwide. Even where the demands for sustainable cement production have not yet come to the fore, this will be the case in the coming years.

The VDZ and Cembureau roadmaps define clear goals and targets to be achieved at the individual stages. And the various stages are no longer as far in the future as they first appeared. This means that clear transformation steps are necessary, both in the efficiency of the plants and in the use of low-carbon binders or the technology for capturing and injecting CO2. With all these challenges, we are living in an exciting but also challenging time, which is certainly not easy, but will hopefully also unite the industries to find the necessary solutions together. And as the well-known journalist and documentary filmmaker Dirk Steffens made very clear yesterday (27.11.) at the FORUM:BAU in Essen, organized by HOLCIM, without our environment and the large but also the very small creatures, such as the millions of microorganisms, we humans cannot survive either. It is therefore important for all of us to tackle the challenges of the future TOGETHER.

With this in mind, the team at ZKG CEMENT LIME GYPSUM wishes you a happy, reflective and peaceful Christmas season and a good 2025![-]
