La série 2ndHAND examine la transformation des bâtiments et environnements existants dans une perspective contemporaine : activer l'existant. À l'opposé des modèles monofonctionnels obsolètes, elle propose des processus ouverts qui introduisent de nouveaux usages, acteurs et modes de gestion. Ces transformations intègrent l'ambiguïté, la fragmentation et la perte de cohérence comme éléments intrinsèques au projet.

Le premier numéro de la série 2ndHAND aborde les bâtiments hybrides comme une condition plutôt que comme un type. Contraint d'abandonner toute conception linéaire du progrès, l'architecte doit accepter la légitimité du fragmentaire et du pluriel, renoncer à la cohérence totale et travailler à travers l'hétérogénéité, produisant des constructions hybrides, ouvertes et inévitablement imparfaites. Le bâtiment cesse d'être un objet clos et devient un système évolutif, façonné par de multiples logiques et capable de s'adapter à une réalité urbaine en mutation. Huit projets sont mis en lumière, du Royale Belge à Bruxelles et du Provinciehuis de Gand au Dépôt Hard à Zurich et à l'Ilôt Lafayette à Paris.


The 2ndHAND series examines the transformation of existing buildings and environments from a contemporary standpoint: activating what already exists. In contrast to exhausted monofunctional models, it proposes open-ended processes that introduce new uses, agents and modes of management. These transformations embrace ambiguity, fragmentation and the loss of coherence as intrinsic to the project.
The first issue of the 2ndHAND series addresses hybrid buildings as a condition rather than a type. Forced to abandon faith in a single, linear notion of progress, the architect must accept the legitimacy of the fragmentary and the plural, relinquish total coherence and operate through heterogeneity, producing hybrid, open, and inevitably imperfect constructions. The building ceases to be a closed object and becomes an evolving system, shaped by multiple logics and capable of adapting to a changing urban reality. Eight projects are spotlighted, from the Royale Belge in Brussels and the Ghent Provinciehuis to Depot Hard in Zurich and Ilôt Lafayette in Paris.
